ABB and SKF have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the possibility of working together in the field of manufacturing process automation. The MOU was recently signed by ABB CEO Björn Rosengren and SKF CEO Rickard Gustafson at ABB’s Robotics Experience Center in Västerås.
ABB and SKF extend cooperation with a new agreement
ABB highlighted the successful completion of several projects within SKF’s global manufacturing network and installed ABB’s industrial robots in the state-of-the-art bearing manufacturer’s factory. This is an important factor for companies that are currently taking the next step in collaboration.
Through the partnership, ABB and SKF will identify and evaluate solutions that increase capacity and help customers improve production efficiency. As a first step, SKF’s investment in automation and clean manufacturing processes will serve as a test bed focused on reducing carbon emissions from SKF’s operations.
In the long run, both companies will explore new business opportunities in both traditional and emerging market segments, allowing them to gain experience in a variety of industries.
“Demand for automation is increasing due to a declining working age population, rising labour costs and industry’s efforts to create resource-efficient operations in the transformation to more sustainable manufacturing. I am therefore pleased to announce this deepened partnership with SKF, which further strengthens our technological leadership.”
says ABB’s CEO Björn Rosengren in a press release.
